Glasgow bar and restaurant group Kained Holdings, owners of The Finnieston, Lebowskis, Porter & Rye and more, are working with Woodlands Community Garden and local fruit and vegetable supplier, Seasonal Produce.

Fruit  and vegetable suppliers, Seasonal Produce, will deliver produce to the Woodlands Community Garden Café, free of charge, on a weekly basis, helping to ensure that the Café provides healthy meals to local residents who might not otherwise have access to fresh ingredients or the know how to prepare them.

In addition, the group have been offering workshops for the community, including a bread-making workshop hosted by Group Development Chef Rodney Jones (pictured) and Barista training, delivered by Kained Holdings’ Training Manager, Harry Savory.

The Woodlands Community Garden and Café are part of the Woodlands Community Development Trust, which promotes the long term regeneration of the Woodlands area in Glasgow. The Trust supports local people in shaping the future of Woodlands in ways that are innovative, sustainable and environmentally friendly. Their key aims are supporting community-based education activities, promoting the health and well-being of the community, encouraging participation in arts and advancing the protection of the environment.

Community Development worker Irina Martin has been heavily involved in the new initiative with the Community Garden Café and brings together volunteers to cook fresh and healthy meals for the community every week, giving residents the chance to eat and socialise with people they might not have otherwise met.

Irina said: “The support we have been receiving from Kained Holdings and Seasonal Produce has been of immense value to our free Community Pop-Up Cafe. We offer an alternative model to food-banks, which is centred around a shared meal cooked using fresh ingredients. Their support has enabled us to give the opportunity of Food Hygiene and Barista training to our volunteers. The amazing fresh produce deliveries from Seasonal Produce, absolutely free of charge, has made a big difference to our project and helped us support more people in need of good food and company. The partnership with Kained Holdings and Seasonal Produce is a tremendous example of businesses and the community working well together and we cannot thank them enough for their ongoing support.”

As well as supporting the community cafe, Kained Holdings have also agreed to host fundraising events for the Woodlands Community Garden at Kained Holdings venues, with the profits from the events going straight the Woodlands Community Development Trust.
