Junius Meyvant Shares Beautiful New Track ‘Honey Babe, Don’t Be Late’ [Premiere]

There’s an irresistible warmth and vitality that flows out of Júníus Meyvant’s “Honey Babe, Don’t Be Late.” His thick, sweet vocals fold assuredly into the soulful instrumentation, offering a cocktail that, like the real thing, leaves you a little light headed, engulfed in flavor and eager for more. It’s in the twinkling organ, the blasting horns, the perfectly bombastic conclusion. The elements of Motown mixed with 60s folk and psychedelia. The combination makes his sound harder to pin down than you’d assume. It seems nostalgia-driven, but really, it has a heartbeat all its own.

With “Honey Babe, Don’t Be Late,” there’s a level of composure and skill in the arrangement that betrays Júníus Meyvant’s less structured past — one that saw him kicked out of music school at an early age, only to stumble upon an old guitar years later. When you’ve got talent, you’ve got talent, though, and no amount of lost time seems to have slowed his ability to dream up and compose some truly beautiful music.

For anyone in New York or LA next week, he’s playing a show at Rockwood Music Hall on May 2 and Hotel Café on May 4. Can’t imagine this isn’t spectacular live…
