Joey Landreth Brings Whiskey to Dakota Tavern in Toronto

Posted on the 22 March 2017 by Hendrik Pape @soundcheckblg

Joey Landreth grew up in a musical home and first started touring at 16. Joey started a band The Bros. Landreth with his brother in 2013, which landed them a Juno for best "Roots & Traditional Album of the Year" for their album Let it Lie, Joey is definitely no stranger to the music world. In fact, in 2016 he decided to go solo and create the album Whiskey and Toronto was lucky enough to have him rocking The Dakota Tavern to a sold out crowd.

Now there is always something magical that instantly connects you within at a moment's notice. Either a song, a moment in time or even a story being told. Sound Check was in Toronto to see Winnipeg native Joey Landreth's and it only took us a few seconds to get hooked. His voice and style of music is unlike anything we have heard. His voice sooths your soul but gets your toe tapping at the same time. Joey has his own unique sense of style when it comes to music and the lyrics like for instance "Hallelujah I love you so" is a classic song about love but its has a gospel, blues soul tone to it. Joey loves to tell stories but the best story was about him and his wife. His wife asked why was there was no song about her, Joey was unsure how to answer it but he wrote a song called "Back To Thee", which he sang at The Dakota Tavern in Toronto. Man there was a love energy bolt going through that place especially since his wife was side stage watching him.

Joey sure did rock the Tavern. He played songs from his current CD and threw some songs from The Bros. Landreth. When we caught up with Joey it was humbling to know his brother helped with his album and that even though it was a solo album his family was there to help in every step. If you have not gotten Whiskey his new Album you must do so right now. Everyone song is as good as the last and his musical talent is beyond anything I can describe. We can wait to catch Joey again.

Joey will be coming to Ottawa next week for JUNOfest where he'll be taking part in the Outlaws and Gunslingers event presented by CBC Music at St. Brigid's Centre for the Arts on March 31 starting at 8pm.
