If a wedding could ever be described as 'clutter free' today's wedding would be it. There is something so fresh, so simple and so elegant about Jodie & Ben's Wellington Wedding, that even looking at the images makes me feel organised and relaxed (I know, I'm a weirdo). It could be the beautiful fresh colours of their surroundings, it could be the fact the couple only focused on what was really important to them, or it could be the amazingly stunning images from PATINA PHOTOGRAPHY, but whatever it is, I LOVE IT. Ben and I knew of each other through rowing circles when we were in our teenage years, but it was when I bumped in to Ben at the Martinborough wine festival when I moved to Wellington after uni -we got talking and I invited him to have a beer at the Macs brewery where I was working and it was love at first pint.
Tell us the one quality you love most about each other?
Ben about Jody -" She has a cracking sense of fun, every day is a laugh"
Jody about Ben - "Ben is extremely kind natured, he is always looking out for me"
In three words describe your wedding style...
Classic, Minimalistic, Romantic
What were your save and splurge items for your wedding?
We each separately wrote down our top three most important things for the event - and it we were pretty aligned. In the end our combined mantra was "Good food, good drinks, good fun" -So for our splurge > It was really all about getting the right caterer to treat our guests, and it was also important to have a cracking beer, wine and whiskey list. We also got some lovely wedding rings.
We saved on things like - invites, decorations and we weren't fussed at all about things like Cars etc.
In hindsight is there anything you would have done differently?
The timing of the scaffolding outside the church was a bit of a bummer, but on the scale of that being the only problem then we went pretty well!
Did you DIY? If so what did you do?
Invitations - so easy to make your own, we had a friend come in and decorate the venue, and another friend offered to do some fresh roses in jars for the tables - Too easy, simple and it looked great!
Where did you/are you going for you honeymoon and why?
We had a short break after the wedding, and travelled with some of our overseas guests to Golden Bay. We are planning a trip to Japan to go Skiing in January as more of a break - and its nice to draw out the wedding experience.....
Come up with your combined top three most important aspects of the wedding day before you start planning, and when you get stuck agonizing or stressing on small details - review the bigger picture and forget about the stuff that doesn't really matter.
We also found that as we were planning the wedding remotely as we live in Sydney, that we just wanted to go for something that was absolutely minimal effort in terms of bringing together on the day - the combination of having an established caterer who get involved with the running of the event such as the Prettys and picking a simple but stylish venue like The Boat Shed was the perfect match.
It just suits us!
