Hi everyone,

Today is an exciting little milestone for Words I Wheel By: it’s my 6 month blogiversary! Back on August 12th, 2013, I published my first post, Elevator to Success, in which I deconstructed the saying “There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs.” It’s hard to believe that 6 months ago, with my family as my only guaranteed readers, I hit the “publish” button and hoped for the best. I’ve been on quite a journey in the time since I put up that first post.

Apparently, time flies whether you’re having fun or not. I began this blog while in a relationship. Then, in October, I experienced my first real heartbreak. It wasn’t pretty, and it’s still not pretty for me to say the least, but I’m so lucky that I found some comfort in continuing to write and advocate through my blog. Around the same time, I started my first full-time job, and along the way I’ve gradually picked up lots of writing and side employment opportunities that keep my mind (and my constantly-typing fingers) quite busy. I’ve discovered that there’s a big and awesome world out there. In fact, it just got a little bigger, because this afternoon, I PASSED MY ROAD TEST! I’M SUPER PUMPED!

Anyway, even though I’ve been experiencing rough emotions for the past few months, I’ve also experienced plenty of joy in connecting with new people in the disability community and the blogging world. Plus, my friends and family have come through for me, sticking by my side as supporters, cheerleaders, and loyal blog readers. (Hi Mom and Dad!) And along the way, I’ve gotten so many wonderful new readers who fill me up with insights and much needed boosts of confidence. It’s fantastic.

So, at the ripe young age of 22, I’m slowly (admittedly very slowly) learning and embracing that my life is just beginning. I’m spending the rest of 2014 focusing on self-acceptance and doing what I love, which includes writing this blog. I can’t even begin to express how much I appreciate the people who take the time to read Words I Wheel By, whether I’m sharing personal stories or advocacy-related thoughts. Thank you all so, so much. I absolutely can’t wait to see where life will take me by the time Words I Wheel By turns one, and I hope you’ll stick around to join me!

Hugs and warm wishes,
Emily
