Myfoxchicago.com: Four people have died and at least 24 people — including a 3-year-old boy — have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The 3-year-old boy was shot in the head Friday night in a home in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. The gun may have been accidentally discharged by the boy or a playmate about 7:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Monroe, police said.

The boy was identified by family members as James Jenkins. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, officials said. “Everybody is just in shock right now,” Annette Garvin, the boy’s aunt, told the Chicago Sun-Times. “We are trying to put everything together.”

Police were questioning a person of interest Saturday evening and searching for the male owner of the gun, which had not been recovered.

The most recent fatal shooting occurred Sunday morning in the Little Village neighborhood. A 17-year-old boy was talking to friends in the 2200 block of South Marshall a few minutes before 6 a.m. when two people walked up, shouted gang slogans and opened fire, police said. The teen was shot twice in the chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

Earlier Sunday, three men were shot — one fatally — at a party in the West Side Austin neighborhood, authorities said. The three were at a backyard party in the 5000 block of West Potomac about 2 a.m. when someone came out of an alley and fired multiple shots, police said. A 33-year-old was shot in the torso and was unresponsive on the scene. The medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

A 35-year-old man was shot in the elbow, torso and hip and taken to West Suburban Hospital, where his condition had stabilized. A 36-year-old man was shot in the back and was in serious condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Forty minutes later, four men were shot — one fatally — at a lounge in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood, police said. The men were inside the lounge in the 8300 block of South Halsted about 2:40 a.m. when someone inside a passing vehicle fired shots into the club, police said.

A 30-year-old man was shot in the chest and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

A 39-year-old was shot in the buttocks and also taken to Christ, where his condition had stabilized. A 32-year-old was shot in the chest and taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, police said. A 41-year-old was shot in the left ankle and taken to Little Company of Mary.

Five minutes later, a man was shot to death in the South Side New City neighborhood. The 40-year-old man was sitting on a porch in the 800 block of West 50th Place when a light-colored vehicle pulled up about 2:45 a.m., police said. As the man walked up to the car, someone inside fired shots, striking him in the chest, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

At least 18 other people have been shot across the city since 4:30 p.m. Friday.
