Is Trump Still The GOP's Leader? Most People Say No!

The two charts above reflect the results of a recent Huffington Post / YouGov Poll -- done between January 26th and 28th of a national sample of 1,000 adults, with a 4.1 point margin of error.

The top chart shows that most people don't believe Donald Trump is still the leader of the Republican Party. Even Republicans are split on the question (40% yes to 42% no).

But that doesn't mean that Trump doesn't still wield power inside the party. When asked if GOP leaders should follow Trump's wishes or chart a new course, 73% of Republicans said follow Trump while 27% said chart a new course.

That is far different from what other Americans said (35% follow Trump to 65% chart a new course). If the GOP wants to return to majority status, it needs to dump Trump. But with the current feelings of the GOP base, that will be difficult.
