In Search of the Perfect Rhinoplasty

Often, patients come to Dr. Guida with a horror story involving another cosmetic surgeon and the surgery performed on their nose.  It is not uncommon for patients to perhaps look better than before surgery, but with many breathing complications.  Further, there are patients that have undergone functional nasal surgery, but at the expense of a satisfactory experience. The world of nasal surgery is a competitive business, in which doctors may boast their nasal surgery skills far beyond actual levels of expertise.

It is not uncommon to find a cosmetic surgeon that regards him/herself as the “World’s Top Nose Surgeon”, “NYC Top Facial Plastic Surgeon” or “Rhinoplasty Expert”.  In choosing a doctor it is very important to do thorough research before believing such claims.

When looking specifically for a nasal surgeon, one must consider both the cosmetic and functional aspects of the nose.  Unfortunately many cosmetic surgeons’ training does not focus the face and the neck, which separates them from facial plastic surgeons.  In comparison, facial plastic surgeons are trained in surgeries pertaining to the face and neck only.  The ideal nasal surgeon is Double Board Certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery, otherwise know as ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat).  This combination of training renders a surgeon whose results will produce a in a nose that both looks and functions better.

One patient that visited our office today came to Dr.Guida after her sister had a bad experience with another doctor.  This particular doctor markets himself as a “World Renowned Rhinoplasty Surgeon.”  This gave a false impression to our patient’s sister, resulting in a crooked nose and breathing issues that could not be fixed after multiple surgeries with this doctor.  After careful research our patient found Dr.Guida and knew he was the right surgeon.  The patient is beyond thrilled with her final results and now her sister is planning to have revision rhinoplasty with Dr.Guida in the fall.

The best advice on finding a qualified and competent nasal surgeon would be to inquire about the doctor’s training and board certification.  Another helpful piece of advice is to listen to experiences of former patients.  The majority of Dr. Guida’s patients come to him via referrals of past patients.  This tells us that his work speaks for itself.
