If Fate Continues Itself, 2013 Will Be a Good Year for the Steelers

By Kipper @pghsportsforum
As most of you know, 2012 was a down year. We went 8-8, finished 3rd in our division, and missed the playoffs, which was a pretty bad year by the Steeler Standards. This morning I was surfing the web and looking at the past Steeler seasons, and I discovered this: since the beginning of the 21st century, every 3 years (starting in 2000) the Steelers would have a down year. Here are the statistics of those seasons
2000: 9-7 3rd AFC Central, Missed Playoffs
2003: 6-10 3rd AFC North, Missed Playoffs
2006: 8-8 3rd AFC North, Missed Playoffs
2009: 9-7 3rd AFC North, Missed Playoffs
2012: 8-8 3rd AFC North, Missed Playoffs
In all of these seasons not only did we finish 3rd in are respected divisions, but we also missed the playoffs. Now, here's the silver lining to all of this: the year after each of those down seasons, we'd have a good season. Here are the statistics of those seasons
2001: 13-3 1st AFC Central, lost in AFC Championship
2004: 15-1 1st AFC North, lost in AFC Championship
2007: 10-6 1st AFC North, lost in AFC Wildcard
2010: 12-4 1st AFC North, lost in Super Bowl XLV
2013: ?
All of these teams not only finished 1st in their respected division, but they all also made they playoffs, with most getting to the AFC Championship Game or farther. And if the 2007 season doesn't interest you, remember this: the following season (2008) they'd go on to win Super Bowl XLIII, defeating the Arizona Cardinals 27-23. So after looking at all of this, the question is this: will fate continue? If it does, we could be in for a pretty fun and exciting season.
