How to Enable Picture Dictionary for Immersive Reader in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft added a new feature called Picture Dictionary for Immersive Reader to Edge browser. Learn how to enable the feature and start using it.

Each update of Microsoft Edge in Canary channel brings new features to browser. Starting today, Microsoft rolled out a new build v83.0.472.0 and it has new feature called Picture Dictionary. It is dedicated to Immersive reader feature in Microsoft Edge.

The same build of Microsoft Edge in Canary channel also has a feature using which users can Import Data from Classic Edge to New Edge.

With the help of Picture Dictionary users can add or display small image for selected text that will give visual definition. It is very handy feature.

Enable and Use Picture Dictionary in Immersive Reader in Edge

In case, you want to try Picture Dictionary feature in Immersive feature, then here’s how you can enable and start using it:

Picture Dictionary feature is available behind the flag and you have to enable it manually. For that:

Launch Microsoft Edge browser and then visit following address: edge://flags/#edge-reading-view-picture-dictionary

Here, change the settings for “Picture Dictionary in Immersive Reader” from Default to Enabled.

Restart the browser to apply the changes.

Doing this will add the new Reading preferences option in the Edge Immersive Reader mode including a Picture Dictionary option.

In the Microsoft New Tab Page open any website. For example, I will open one of the posts from my blog.

Next, you need to click on the Immersive reader icon available on the left side in the address bar. Alternatively, you can press F9 or Fn + F9 key to launch it quickly.

The same web page will load up in Reader mode of Microsoft Edge browser.

Here, click on the Reading preferences and in the menu move Picture Dictionary slider to ON position. The picture dictionary is powered by Boardmaker.

Now select the text and quick dialog box will pop-up suggesting descriptive picture for it. Check following screenshot:

Picture Dictionary in Immersive Reader is very handy feature. It is expected that, the feature will soon reach Microsoft Edge in stable version.
