How to Create a Social Media Presence for Your New Band

If you and a group of musically talented friends have just set up a new band together, you’re going to want to get the word out. Whether the purpose of your band is purely for entertainment or you’ve got big dreams to get to the top of the music charts one day, creating a social media presence for your band is important – even if it’s only for taking bookings for small weekend gigs. No matter how small or big your dreams for your new band are, we’ve put together a list of great ways in which you can increase its presence on social media.

Create a Facebook Page

Everyone and everything these days has Facebook, so if you want your new band to have a good social media presence creating a Facebook page that people can ‘like’ in order to see new content is absolutely vital. Once you’ve created your Facebook page, you can use it to upload band videos, photographs, soundtracks, and any new information about your band that you’d like your fans to see. The great thing about Facebook is that anybody can see it, so if you’re looking to be spotted by a top shot music records label, Facebook can provide the opportunity. Twitter is a great social media platform to use especially if you’re looking to attract a younger generation, and it’s also a great way for your band to connect with other bands, celebrities, and even record labels who have a twitter page. The micro blogging site works off hashtags, meaning that if you include the most popular hashtags in your tweets, they’re also likely to come up top in searches and expose your band to more and more Twitter users, creating a larger social media presence. You can also include a link to your band’s website in your Twitter bio, and you can upload links to videos and soundtracks as well.

Instagram and Vine

If your band takes a lot of pictures and videos when performing, you’d be wise to use the social media platforms Instagram and Vine to help your band further grow its online social media presence. With Instagram you can upload photographs and short videos, and Vine allows you to upload a series of short videos that will give fans a sneak peek of the full thing – include a link to your Facebook page or website and they’re sure to click on it to view more if they liked what they saw on your Vine. Vine and Instagram are also widely used by the younger generation making them great social media platforms to use if this is your target market for fans.
