Hotel of the Month: Le Sirenuse, Amalfi Coast, Italy

By Thehoneymoonproject @thehoneymoonpro

The Amalfi Coast is one of those quintessential honeymoon destinations – picture-perfect cliffside villages, old-fashioned glamour, fabulous food and clear, blue waters shimmering below you. There are a whole host of gorgeous places to stay in this part of Italy, but when I was recently researching my article on fabulous honeymoon pools I was reminded of just how stunning Le Sirenuse  is, and felt it was a perfect choice for hotel of the month.

This is classic Italian style at its best – rooms have a stately elegance, without being fussy, and boast features like beautiful tiled floors and gorgeous pieces of furniture, complemented by lots of whites and creams to contrast the stunning blues of  the sea and sky outside. All but five rooms in the hotel have a sea view, looking out over the stunning bay of Positano, which is best soaked up from your private balcony. I especially love the look of the Deluxe Superior Sea View (pictured above), but I have to say that all the rooms look pretty fabulous.

The swimming pool is set on an outdoor terrace among lemon trees and flowers, with yet more stupendous views of the water and the houses staggered down the hillside. You can enjoy a leisurely lunch here, or during summer evenings, enjoy yet another terrace at the Champagne and Oyster Bar (who wouldn’t want a bar like that on honeymoon?), atmospherically lit by candlelight. The main restaurant, La Sponda, is Michelin-starred, serving dishes that make use of the glorious fresh, local ingredients, and you can choose to dine either outside, or inside the vaulted dining room, with vines trailing up the walls.

Of course, there are few great hotels these days that don’t have spas, and Le Sirenuse  is no exception. I especially like the sound of the Tropical Spa Experience, which is for two people and begins with a ginger and Caribbean lime footbath, followed by a body scrub, steam bath, and then a full-body massage using mango, coconut and coconut butter moisturiser, and finishing with a customised facial – bliss.

It would be a shame to come to this beautiful part of Italy and not see more of what the area has to offer. You could hire a car for a bit of freedom, or arrange for a private tour, and Le Sirenuse also runs complimentary trips on their own boat, the wooden Sant’Antonio, which takes you along the coast – as it only fits 12 people, you can be guaranteed a personal, uncrowded experience.

I can’t deny that Le Sirenuse is pricey – it most definitely is – but if you want a honeymoon hotel on the Amalfi Coast that’s absolutely special and luxurious, then you can’t do much better than this.
