Today, August 21st, is La Cocina Mexican Grill and Bar’s Fifth Anniversary and they are celebrating with food + drink specials and lots of interactive social media fun!

My good friends and the owners of La Cocina, George and Ann Hartley, moved from Dallas to South Walton in 1997 to return home to the beaches where Ann was raised.

Once settled in, they realized they missed authentic Mexican food terribly, with no options at the time to be found. They jumped at the chance to plant their community roots with the purchase of Seagrove Village MarketCafe in 1999, showcasing  their trademark #DeepFriedLove menu, and began offering Mexican night every Thursday in the off-season to locals.

I was fortunate to live within 2 blocks of the restaurant and benefitted from many of the menu options, a favorite still being Senora Ann’s Fish Tacos washed down with a cool drink of fresh Sangria, on the menu today at La Cocina!

Mexican Thursdays became so popular that the Hartleys could see the need for this type of cuisine on 30A. As restauranteurs, when the space came available in the new Villages of South Walton in Seacrest, the Hartleys opened La Cocina to rave reviews with their sweet pup as the mascot, and manager Hector who quickly grew his own fan base.

To thank their loyal patrons for their support over the years, today all guests who dine at the restaurant during lunch or dinner will receive a complimentary piece of tres leches cake with their meal.

Lunch is served from from 11 am to 3 pm, and dinner from 5 pm to 9 pm.

Patrons who wish La Cocina “happy birthday” on social media using the hashtag #vivalaco30a will receive a complimentary house margarita! You can find La Cocina on twitter at @lacocina30a and find 30AEats.com at @Eater30A where you can also share the hashtag!

To add to the social media fun, mini “photo booths” will be set up at each table, complete with creative props including masks, mustaches and sombreros. The perfect time to get a selfie with Hector & the staff.
