HABS: Player-by-player ES Possession Rating Before Olympics, After Olympics, and During the Playoffs

Habs top offensive players
The graph included here is an attempt to rate each player's ability to create offense This is calculated by multiplying the number of scoring-chances they create for every 1 attempted puck-possession play by the number of puck-possession plays they contribute per-minute of even-strength ice-time. In theory, the players who rate high using this system not only create more scoring-chances per-puck-possession play, they also engage in more puck-possession plays per-minute played.
This takes how efficient a player is at creating scoring-chances, and combines it with how often they have possession of the puck.
A list of all the metrics I track can be found here
EVEN-STRENGTH POSSESSION RATINGS
As a team, Montreal produced a better possession rating in games that occurred after the Olympics. Their possession rating during the playoffs was also higher than the rating they had prior to the Olympics.
The top possession-rating among defensemen both before and after the Olympics was produced by PK Subban. Nathan Beaulieu had the top possession rating among d-men during the playoffs, but had a smaller sample size.
The lowest possession rating among d-men before the Olympics was produced by Josh Gorges, while the lowest after the games belonged to Douglas Murray. Alexei Emelin had the lowest possession rating during the playoffs.
Among centres, Lars Eller had a slightly better possession-rating than David Desharnais prior to the Olympics, but Desharnais had the better rating after the games. With limited ice-time, Daniel Briere had the top possession rating among centres in the playoffs, although Desharnais had the better rating among players with more substantial playoff ice-time.
The lowest possession rating among centres prior to the Olympics was shared by Briere and Ryan White, while the lowest after the games belonged solely to White. The lowest rating among centres during the playoffs was contributed by Tomas Plekanec.
Among wingers, Max Pacioretty had the top possession rating prior to the Olympics, while Thomas Vanek had it after the games. The top rating during the playoffs belonged to Rene Bourque. Brendan Gallagher and Pacioretty had the most consistently-high ratings during the year.
Not surprisingly, the lowest rating both before and after the Olympics was produced by George Parros. The lowest possession rating during the playoffs belonged to Travis Moen (SSS).
