Via MyFoxChicago: Five men were killed and at least 38 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago over Mother’s Day weekend.
Most recently, a man was shot to death early Sunday while sitting in the back seat of a vehicle driving on Lake Shore Drive on the North Side, police said. Officers responded at 5:08 a.m. to a report that a car had crashed into a pole in the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive near Foster Avenue, according to Chicago Police.
The officers then discovered a 35-year-old man sitting in the back seat of the vehicle had been shot in the lower back, police said. He and two other people had been driving northbound in the 4400 block of North Lake Shore Drive when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire. The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. No one else was injured in the shooting.
About 10:50 p.m. Saturday night, a 26-year-old man was found shot to death in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said. Officers responding to a call of a person shot about 10:50 p.m. in the 400 block of South Cicero found the 26-year-old lying on the sidewalk, police said.
He had been shot in the right shoulder and was taken to Loretto Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm either fatality Sunday morning.
