Small Things Like These- I mentioned when I talked about White Bird and its poor box office performance, despite being a good film, that Lionsgate likely just ran out of money. I didn’t even get a single screener link from them, and I don’t know anyone who did. So that’s how a movie like this falls through the cracks, because no one is pushing it. It is also a very internal performance, very quiet, from last year’s Oscar winner Cillian Murphy. Small things like Irish dramas based on a true story don’t seem to have the profile to attract attention on their own. This follows the story of a man who has to reckon with his own past, and his present, as he delivers to a Catholic home for women who have wandered astray (so to speak). It’s clear that these women are not here of their own volition, and are being mistreated. But, he’s the sole provider for his family, which is full of women, and you feel this constant turmoil within him as he struggles with the Magdalene sisters and their historically terrible program, and also coming from a poor family, and knowing how hard it is to provide now for his daughters. There are moments where Cillian just sits there in this strife, with tears in his eyes, and even through the audio description, you can feel a man trapped by circumstance. He clearly knows right from wrong, and wouldn’t hurt a fly, but the sisters are more than willing to pay him a little extra to shut him up. I thought the audio description did a beautiful job of capturing these moments.
Fresh: Final Grade: A-, Audio Description: A-
Seeking Mavis Beacon- PArt of Neon’s package, this also didn’t have audio description when it hit Hulu, so I figured it didn’t exist. going into this, I truly had no idea who Mavis Beacon was. It took me a long time to remember that maybe a part of me remembers seeing the name at some point, but I’m not part of the generation that used her typing software. I’m of the generation where I had an actual typewriter, and then a computer, so i already had an idea of where everything was on a keyboard. Audio Description certainly would help in this journey to find out who the physical manifestation of Mavis Beacon was, though the journey is fairly easy to follow. Still, it’s hard with the location changes, and various interviews, to give this film a pass and recommend it without audio description. it is exactly what it advertises though, an investigative look into the woman who might be Mavis Beacon. Was she real? And if so, where did she go? I’d love to see a follow up documentary to this where someone finds Carmen Sandiego.
No grade Given Due To Lack Of Audio Description
the Girl In The Pool- Freddie Prinze jr and Monica Potter reteamed for a lifeless thriller that I found floating on Paramount Plus as a 2025 release. i did catch an interview with the leads, and Freddie was really into the film, and talked about how he developed his character. Monica, on the other hand, could not be bothered. It was kind of funny to see someone who clearly thought they made a great film, juxtaposed against someone who clearly is aware that they didn’t. It’s a mystery without audio description, and even though every fiber of my being says I can’t see a world where I’d give this a positive score, or a recommend, i still can’t grade it. There were too many elements missing. I remain a fan of Freddie Prinze jr, and I hope he lands something substantial for his career.
No Grade do To Lack Of Audio Description
