transformers One- this exciting new animated entry into the franchise is surprisingly good. between this angle, and where we left with Rise Of The Beasts, the franchise is in much stabler positions than Michael Bay beating it until it died. For the release of my YouTube review for this film, i also rewatched and uploaded reviews for all previous films (except Rise of The Beasts, which i had already reviewed) since the entire series has audio description. My favorites are the first Transformers, if you can remember the magic of that film actually doing something exciting with live action Autobots, and Bumblebee, which has the strongest story. right after those two is Transformers One, which goes back to the very beginning, has smart voice cast picks, and introduces you to a brand new adventure that is certainly more than meets the eye. The live action films spent years getting worse and worse, and finally these new films have fresh perspectives, but it seems audiences are burned out. If you haven’t checked out Transformers One, you should. Especially if you are a fan of going back to the basics.

Babygirl- More of an acknowledgement of where I published my first review in order. I will watch this again and have more to say about audio description if I can get caught up. I saw Transformers One in November, and Babygirl in December. However, A24 sent screeners with no audio description. I didn’t feel strong enough about the film without audio description to vote for it anywhere. I can say that. I look forward to it blowing my mind though with audio description.
Sex, Lies, and videotape- Last year was the 35th anniversary of Steven Soderbergh’s debut feature, and i watched a film i always thought was received as far more salacious than it actually is. James Spader, Andie MacDowell, Peter Gallagher, and Laura San Giacomo all feel like they are out of their comfort zone in the best of ways. Yes, he’s made better films since, but for a debut feature, Soderbergh really did knock this one out of the park. it explores the stuff we normally wouldn’t say out loud about ourselves, our sex lives, our partners, and takes our four characters and peels back complicated layers on each one. it is a terrific film. It still holds up 35 years later. The audio description exists. Again, I saw this in November, so I’m playing catch up. Somewhere out there is audio description.

Subservience- This Megan Fox android thriller doesn’t have audio description. So, it evades the final grade. Still, I’m exhausted by AI thrillers, and this was just another. It is either brilliant casting to have Megan Fox in a role where she’s intentionally void of a personality, or she’s grown very self aware of the public opinion (while unfair) about her acting abilities. there’s very little here you can’t find in any number of other thrillers, done better, from Fatal Atraction, Hand That Rocks The Cradle, and so on.
