Global Rescue Reveals Winners of 2019 ‘Spirit of Adventure’ Photo Contest

Global Rescue has announced the winners of its 2019 Spirit of Adventure photo contest by sharing some of the amazing images that were submitted to its panel of judges. The top three images, found in this post, beat out more than a hundred other entrants to take the honors. As you can see, the photos that won the contest are diverse, striking, and beautiful.

The top winner went to the photo above, which was taken by Bo Roberts-Leung, who was part of the Outward Bound Canada Reach Beyond fundraising expedition to the Magnetic North Pole. In the photo, you can clearly make out the seven participants in that expedition as they glide along on skis across the ice, dragging their sleds behind them as they go.

The second place image, directly above, was taken by Tam Nquyen and was shot as explorers rappelled down a 100-foot cavern in what is only referred to as the "Lost World" cave entrance. Meanwhile, the third place winner, found below, was shot by Amy Greeson while visiting Madagascar. This incredible shot shows the bright light of a headlamp as it contrasts with the billions of stars in the Milky Way overhead.

The Spirit of Adventure photo contest is held annually to help spotlight some of the amazing expeditions and journeys that Global Rescue clients undertake each year. Serving as the rescue and evacuation provider for many mountaineers, explorers, researchers, and adventure travelers, GR comes in contact with a lot of adventurous people doing some very adventurous things. Occasionally, those individuals run into some difficulty while taking part in these activities and Global Rescue specializes in not only ensuring that the get out safely, but coordinating SAR operations as needed. During the Karakoram climbing season that just ended, the company helped facilitate three rescue operations alone, including airlifting a climber with frostbite from Gasherbrum Base Camp and another who was ill from K2 BC too.
