Russian gas giant Gazprom has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Polish EuRoPol GAZ. According to this document, a new Europe-2 gas pipeline with the annual throughput of no less than 15 billion cubic meters (530 BCF) of natural gas would run towards Slovakia and Hungary via Poland.

A feasibility study for this project is expected to be available within six months.

The gas pipeline will allow increasing transit capacities of natural gas supplies to Poland, Slovakia and Hungary as well as reducing transmission costs. In addition, the project will enable to build up the volumes of Russian natural gas exported to the countries of Central Europe.

“The Yamal—Europe-2 project implies that some additional gas transmission capacities should be built to secure uninterrupted and reliable Russian gas supplies to European consumers. The gas pipeline route will run through Poland and our Polish partners will take an active part in engineering and construction works,” said Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee.
