It started out as the Adagio to Rodrigo’s Concerto de Aranjuez:

By the early 1980s it had picked up English lyrics and was being sung by Greek Singer, Demis Roussos:

Early in the 20th century it became the concluding theme to Mamoru Oshii’s Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence:
