When you think of the Netherlands, you think tulips, windmills... and canals. One of the best places in the country to get your fill of canals is Amsterdam, where the canals have been UNESCO World Heritage site since 2010. And the best time to see those enchanting canals is at the annual Grachtenfestival, or Canal Festival.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Grachtenfestival and the chosen theme is Love. And why not? After all, what is Amsterdam plus classical music but a match made in heaven?

Running all day from August 10-19, the festival is expected to draw 50,000 visitors from the Netherlands and the rest of the world.

The Grachtenfestival is a celebration of classical music in the form of a series of concerts, masterclasses, and canal tours. Each event takes place in a different location in Amsterdam, showcasing the city as well as the music. Many of the performances are free.

There are also special programs for children through the Junior Grachtenfestival. These shows are free of charge and include performances by de Verhalenjurk and Podiumbeesten!'s musical production of The Little Mermaid.

A list of the performances, dates, and times can be found on the festival website at www.grachtenfestival.nl. The website also includes information on accommodation, food, and travel information.

The Grachtenfestival is a great way to see talents new and established bringing to life the best of classical music to the backdrop of the famed canals of Amsterdam.
