Emmy Predictions: Best Actor and Actress in a Movie/Mini

Posted on the 18 June 2017 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

My second post in the Emmy Watch category. Here we’ve got the leading contenders for Actor and Actress in a Movie or Mini/Limited Series.

BEST ACTOR:
The Contenders:
Riz Ahmed (The Night Of)
John Tuturro (The Night Of)
Robert DeNiro (The Wizard Of Lies)
Ewan McGregor (Fargo)
Geoffrey Rush (Genius)
Jude Law (The Young Pope)
Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock)
Michael Gambon (Churchill’s Secret)
Ricky Gervais (David Brent: On The Road)

Shoulda Been Contenders:
Timothy Hutton (American Crime)
Guy Pearce (When We Rise)
Harvey Fierstein (Hairspray: Live)

Movie stars are invading the category. I don’t think voters will pass up the chance to nominate Robert DeNiro for his Bernie Madoff role. I also think that everyone loved The Night Of for both Tuturro and Ahmed to make it in. The question is, can Cumberbatch repeat against McGregor/Rush/Law? Who gets left out?

My Predictions: Ahmed, Tuturro, DeNiro, Law, Rush

BEST ACTRESSL
The Contenders:
Jessica Lange (Feud)
Susan Sarandon (Feud)
Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies)
Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies)
Oprah Winfrey (Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks)
Carrie Coon (Fargo)
Lauren Graham (Gilmore GIrls)
Felicity Huffman (American Crime)
Bryce Dallas Howard (Black Mirror)

Shoulda Been Contenders:
Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls)
Idina Menzel (Beaches)
Nia Long (Beaches)
Sanaa Lathan (Shots Fired)
Melissa Leo (Most Hated Woman In America)

Obviously, the two big contenders here are Feud and Big Little Lies. Since everyone will be watching those two, I can’t imagine both actresses from both shows not getting nominated. So who gets the fifth spot? Oprah? Or someone else?

My Predictions: Lange, Sarandon, Kidman, Witherspoon, Winfrey
