By Claire

My reply to Darren’s email says it all: “Within a second of clicking on your link it was a yes from me! What an amazing wedding :) That first image had me smiling so much… there’s so much more to love too: the venue, the little dance in the doorway of the Ashton Memorial! Just wonderful!

So without further mutterings from me — I witter on, don’t I?! I’m just excited — here are my favorite photographs from Emma and Alex’s wedding at the Ashton Memorial and Ashton Hall at Lancaster Golf Club. Congratulations to a beautiful bride and gorgeous groom (honestly — they could be movie stars!) and thank you ever so much to both of you, and to Darren Williams Photography, for sharing your wedding day with us. Everyone — enjoy! Claire x

The wedding venues:

Ceremony — Ashton Memorial, Williamsons Park, Lancaster
Reception — Ashton Hall at Lancaster Golf Club, Lancaster

Wedding photographer:

Invitations and reception stationery:

Lovingly home made on a rainy afternoon with my mom and friends. The invitations had a vintage brooch and silver ribbon which gave guests a hint of the color scheme — silver and purple. For the table plan we bought an old silver, vintage mirror which we then decorated. Name tags were purple hearts attached to our wedding favours of gingerbread men and women (home made by Alex’s mom and dad). We wrote the table names on mini blackboards from Hobbycraft.

What did you wear?

My dress was Isadora Ann by Maggie Sottero from Butterfly Bridal in Lancaster. My shoes were silver glitzy heels from Roland Cartier — Debenhams. I wore a birdcage veil and flower from Lilly Bella , I borrowed my necklace from my sister (something borrowed!)

Alex wore a classic black slim fitting Cerruti Italian tux, with a hand tied skinny bow tie.

A little about the wedding ceremony:

We had our civil ceremony in the most beautiful building in Lancaster which was built in 1908 by Lord Ashton to remember his second wife. As the guests arrived, Frank Sinatra music played then the old movies theme continued as we signed the register to Marilyn Monroe’s ‘I wanna be loved by you’. Our wedding readings were ‘The art of marriage’ by Wilferd A. Peterson and ‘He never leaves the seat up’. At the end of the ceremony our music direction changed as we danced down the aisle to Alex’s favorite song ‘Don’t look back into the sun’ by The Libertines. After the ceremony the guests were treated to pink fizz with strawberries, and mini cakes.

Wedding venue styling and details:

  • Aisle decorated with lanterns and purple petals.
  • Wild garden flowers to tie in with the greenery in Williamson’s park.
  • Retro sweet table
  • Table with family wedding portraits on

Wedding music and entertainment:

The Deltatones two piece band played an amazing mix of vintage rock, classic indie and upbeat classics. They also provided a DJ set where an eclectic mix of songs were played from Gina G and Five to Jonny B. Goode.

Memorable wedding day moments:

Emma — On my hen do in Glasgow we went to a Burlesque Dance lesson where we learnt a routine to Lady Marmalade. In the evening myself and my hens surprised the guests with this performance complete with feather boas!

Alex — Seeing my beautiful bride in her amazing unique dress for the first time as she walked down the aisle (preceded by my gorgeous 15 month old niece as our flower girl).

Wedding day advice:

Don’t let anybody dictate your day — do what you want to do and be yourself. That is what will make your day memorable.
