Newsworthy Dessert?

This is actually one of those recipe ideas I picked up from reading in an online newspaper, as Google news tacked it to the bottom of the headlines as news "selected for me". It called for two ingredients: apple pie filling and cinnamon rolls.

While I usually like to make everything from scratch, I also have that darker, lazier side (don't we all, really?) And as some of these uber-easy recipes go, they have occasionally turned out to be pretty good, like doing the meatballs with grape jelly and chili sauce. That one is a family favorite.

So I thought I would test it out to see how it went.

A Pinterest Win or a Pinterest Fail?

And as some of these recipes go (I am sure we have all come across one) it turns out it would have been a Pinterest fail- if I have just followed it blindly. Thank goodness I did not. The recipe I had, called for much more pie filling (50% more in fact) and a much larger pan (9×13).

The idea is to put the bits of cinnamon roll in the pan and cover it with the pie filling and bake. But one can of rolls isn't nearly going to be enough- or maybe she meant two cans? Or maybe she never really made this at all and I was looking at one of those recipes that doesn't belong to the photo.

Why Do People Do Those Things?

And yes, those kind of things do actually exist, and I know it for a fact after catching people stealing my pictures and attaching them to recipes that don't apply. Or have you ever looked at the pic and can actually see ingredients that don't belong?

But okay, I shrunk the pan size to a pie plate and put the topping on but it looked so boring I decided to add some of the Millican Pecans I had been sent for Fall Flavors and a bit of streusel business.

Down to Business

I baked for the twenty minutes they asked and (Good Gawd woman, that dough is raw in the center!) and popped it back into the oven and baked it out to around an hour (at which point scooting the topping over I could see the rolls were done). Which makes sense because things like pie and quiche take around that long.

Plus the thing that happens that lets you know something is done- when the kitchen smells incredible.

Is it a Cobbler? Or Something Else? You Tell Me

And basically, if this is not your usual cobbler type, being somewhat upside down and has tendencies to be like a dump cake and a monkey bread all at once. But it's delicious and you'll like it. I liked it so much, in fact, that I pushed ahead and switched out the recipe I was going to make with some of the pecans I was sent so you could get this recipe right away. I hope you like it. And don't worry about a Pinterest fail here-it is fixed and all is right with the world.
