Note: This is the first underwater portrait in the history of photography. It appears in Boutan's book titled La Photographie sous-marine et les progrès de la photographie. The sign held by his colleague Racovitza reads "Photographie Sous Marine" ("Underwater Photography").

Boutan was a pioneer in the field of underwater photography.
