DIY: Homemade Hair Oils for Itchy Scalp and Dandruff

The hair oil that you get in the market may not always be suitable for your skin and may cause allergy. It also contains many chemicals, some of which may be harmful for your scalp and the hair. You also have to be careful about the artificial scents and the preservative used in the hair oil. So, making your own hair oil at home is safer and provides you the satisfaction of using a product that is not harmful in any way. You can make different hair oils at home for your hair problems. Various problems of the hair like dandruff, premature graying of the hair, hair loss etc may be treated by making specific hair oils. The hair oil that you make at home may not be light as the ones you buy from the market nor do they have the good smell that you get from the hair oil that you buy. But they are more effective on your hair. After using homemade hair oil for a few days, you will start getting positive results. Being homemade, they are made from natural ingredients and do not contain any harmful chemicals.

Here are some hair oils that you can make at home, which are good for your itchy scalp and provide you healthy and beautiful hair:

First of all let us see what dandruff is:

The dry dead flakes that appear on the scalp are called dandruff. Dandruff is one of the common problems that most people suffer from. You have to keep your scalp and hair always clean and hydrated to get rid of dandruff. Hormone changes may also cause dandruff. Dandruff causes itchiness on the scalp and also makes the hair root weak, leading to hair loss and other hair problems. Presence of dandruff on your hair leads to hair loss even if you take a healthy diet and keep your hair well maintained. So it is important that you remove dandruff regularly to prevent hair loss and promote healthy growth of your hair.

Refreshing Citrus Hair oil for Dandruff:

Citrus Fruits Dandruff Hair Oil

A simple and easy way to remove dandruff from your hair is to make citrus hair oil and apply this oil regularly on your hair.  Most of you throw away the peels of oranges and lemons, thinking that they are of no use. But they can be used in many ways for keeping your skin and hair healthy. Next time you use citrus fruits, do not throw the peels away. Collect them and dry them till they are hard. Once they are hard, powder tem and store in an airtight container. Take one heaped teaspoon of this powder and add it to100 ml of base oil. Heat till the oil starts to fume. Let the oil cool and then filter it. Keep the filtered oil in a container that is airtight. Apply this oil on your itchy scalp and hair and massage the scalp well. Steam your hair after allying the oil, so that the oil penetrates deep into your scalp. Leave the oil on your hair for about 40 to 50 minutes and then wash thoroughly with water. You can use this twice a week and you will see that it is very effective for getting rid of dandruff. The fresh citrus fragrance of this oil prevents the dandruff from returning back.

Hibiscus Hair Oil for Dandruff Hair:

Hair loss is one of the major problems that most of the people suffer from. It is highly depressing and it may even make you too much conscious to go out and meet people. The bald patches that appear on the scalp spoil your looks and are something that you want to hide from others. It is time that you stop worrying about such problems. There is a remedy for it. The leaves and flowers of hibiscus are very effective for the proper growth of the hair and fighting itchy scalp effectively in a short time. They make your dull and lifeless hair to grow well and provide life and luster to the hair. To make hibiscus hair oil, you have to take 5 numbers each of hibiscus leaves and flowers. Crush them to get a coarse mixture. You must not add any water when you crush the leaves and the flowers. Now add this to 100 ml of coconut oil, olive oil or any other carrier oil that you use. if you wish so, you can also add 1 teaspoon of tulsi and fenugreek powder to the oil. Stir well and then heat the mixture till fit starts to fume. Now switch off the flame and let the oil cool to room temperature. Once it is cool, filter the oil and keep it in an airtight container. Apply this oil on your hair every day before you bathe. Leave it on your hair for 1 hour and then rinse our hair. This hair oil that you make at home nourishes your hair and makes it grow long and thick. It also prevents premature greying of hair and provides you soft, lustrous and healthy hair. Use it regularly to get best results.

A few tips to remember:

  • Homemade hair oils do not contain any preservatives in them. So you must use them within 3 to 4 months to get best results out of them. Keeping too long may make them stale.
  • The oil you choose as base oil depends on the type of your scalp. If you have a dry scalp, castor oil or avocado oil is best for you. For oily scalp, jojoba oil is the best choice.
  • The ingredients you choose for making homemade hair oil must be as fresh as possible. The hibiscus flowers and lemon peels must be as fresh. The fresher the ingredients, the better the result you get.
  • Take juicy and thick hibiscus leaves instead of pale and thin ones.
  • Dip a clean towel in hot water and squeeze it to remove excess water. Wrap it on your hair after oiling it and let the steam cover the hair. This will allow the oil to penetrate deep in to the scalp.
