Ditching Screens Will Help Open Your Creativity, Sasha Olsen, Author Hello everyone! My name is Sasha Olsen, and I’ve lived on the beach in Florida since I was a just a baby. I have many hobbies, like ballroom dancing and playing piano. I also love to read, write, and draw. They’re some of my favorite things to do! I just released my first book Legends from Mom’s Closet, and I’m excited to share more about it and how I came up with my project. Since we’ve been stuck at home for a while, we should definitely be thinking about how we can use our imaginations to keep busy.
Reading about and dressing up as legendary people is how I spent my last rainy summer indoors, and it seems like that’s exactly how I’ll be spending this one, too! Starting this project taught me so much. Not only did I learn about these legends, I learned a lot about what it means to work on something you love. My tips for you all are to read and do research on things that you are interested in. For me, I love reading biographies, which is how I ended up as these legendary women.
One of the best ways to find out what you love is by reading about different topics. I’ve read about scientists, models, actresses, and so many people from all types of careers. Then, I thought how cool would it be if I spent a day in their shoes and learned even more about their lives? Dressing up became my favorite thing to do, mostly because I could get creative and look for unique things. Good thing my mom let me dig in her closet for them!
It was also really important that I could use what was around me because I’m always thinking of ways that we can help take care of our environment. There is no need to buy new things or go to the store! Especially because nowadays we’d rather not even do that.
It’s easy to think that if we’re bored then we should just spend our time on our technology, but I think that it distracts us from opening our creativity. If you’re bored, I challenge you all out there to find something new to do. Hopefully, reading my book inspires you. I wrote this book to show other kids that we can do so much with our time especially with our family’s support.
You can check out my book on my website www.legendsfrommomscloset.com and Amazon, as well as other platforms. I also continue my project on my Instagram where I post about these legends and new ones that I learn about and dress up as!
Ditching Screens Will Help Open Your Creativity, Sasha Olsen, Author Sasha Olsen is a 10-year-old author, environmental activist, ballroom dancer, bookworm, pianist, and enjoys anything artistic. She always finds new hobbies and things to do, which usually ends up in her trying to juggle everything. She lives with her family in Bal Harbour, Florida, where she also spearheads the conservation movement “I Want My Ocean Back.” Legends from Mom’s Closet is her first book.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
In Legends from Mom’s Closet, 10-year-old Sasha Olsen documents how she spent a rainy summer indoors using her creativity and imagination. After reading a stack of books about women like Frida Kahlo, Audrey Hepburn and Billie Holiday, Sasha’s imagination ran wild and she ended up in her mom's closet picking through her clothes and her grandmother’s vintage pieces to dress up like all the female legends she had been reading about. Complete with photos of the looks she created and tips for other young girls on how they, too, can emulate these iconic women, Legends from Mom’s Closet will inspire readers to delve into the lives of truly remarkable women from the past to learn a thing or two about what it means to be legendary in today’s world.
