Hublot unveiled the diamond-encrusted addition to its flagship line of watches, the Big Bang Tourbillion, at Baselworld 2012. Its $5 million price tag makes this Hublot Big Bang the most expensive watch in the world.
The watch has a white gold casing encrusted with 1,282 hand-selected diamonds, adding up to 140 total carats. Each stone is carefully chosen to fit in the overall design and match in color. To create the watch requires 14 months of combined effort from 17 different artisans and experts, including seven months work for 12 cutters and seven months for five setters. Jay-Z is well-known for his love of watches and his vast collection, but this incredible timepiece surely outclasses any other that he owns.
The power couple has a long-standing history of exorbitantly expensive gifts for each other. Beyonce has previously given Jay-Z a $500,000 sapphire ring in appreciation for his support during the birth of their daughter, Blue Ivy. For one Christmas, Jay-Z surprised Beyonce with $350,000 worth of Hermes Birkin bags under the tree. For his 41st birthday, Beyonce bought Jay-Z a $2 million dollar Bugatti Veyron. If that trend from a $2 million car to a $5 million watch continues, one has to wonder what Jay-Z will get for the big 5-0.
