Custom Ring DesignLast month we showed you this amazing ring that Jay Freedman designed for one of our customers who had arthritic knuckles.  This month, our ring design of the month is from our salesman and newly married man, Jonathan Nuncio.  Jonathan is one of our top salesmen.  Because he is younger and just went through the process of getting his own ring, he is great at explaining to young men how it works.  And, I notice the older women who come in love him too because he is quite cute and charming.

This ring, Diamond Vines, as we named it, was designed by a soon to be bride who was very specific about what she wanted.  She met with Jonathan with her fiancé, and it was a second marriage for both of them.  Because of that, she didn’t want your traditional ring or a halo surrounding a center stone, like she had seen so often.  She had an idea of what she wanted and had pictures and even drawn it out.  But, it was up to Jonathan to make her vision a reality.

The Diamond Vines Started With a Single Solitaire

Diamond Vines
When this couple got engaged, it was with a single perfect solitaire that was not purchased from Jonathan’s Fine Jewelers.  You see, you don’t have to purchase your diamonds from us, in order for us to custom make your ring design around the diamond you have, as we did for this customer.  This was a beautiful stone, with very nice proportions.  An ideal cut.

She wanted what appeared to be vines and leaves woven up and around this stone so that the main stone looked like it was floating amongst a garden of diamond vines and flowers.  This is much easier said than done for several reasons.

The Ring Design Process of The Diamond Vines

Ring Design
Vines are malleable.  Gold and platinum are only malleable to a certain degree.  A diamond is hard, but the diamond needed to be secured and held in place.  Furthermore, the vines or prongs had to be able to hold that diamond in place, so they had to be wide enough to not break and to hold diamonds, as she wanted them to be diamond.

We could have made them bob and weave around, but the end result would have been that the center stone would have been lost in everything that was going around that stone and you don’t want that unless the center stone you have is inferieor and hers was not.  So, how to get a compromise?

The Compromise of The Diamond Vines

Diamond Vines
We decided that if we set the diamond between four prongs or vines that are covered with pave diamonds, but will hold the diamond securely, while not detracting from the center stone, that will give the illusion that the stone is sitting suspended between the diamond prongs.  We added the round pave diamond open circle at the bottom of the diamond to hold the prongs in place and for added strength.

This ring is in 14-karat white gold and the diamonds that cap off the diamond vines really do finish the ring design.

Ring Design
What you have is another one of a kind ring design that was done with the collaboration of one of our talented salespeople and a customer.  When you build a custom ring, bracelet, necklace or earrings or even a brooch the only limit you have is your budget and your imagination.

And, this is what I love about my job.  I love when I see that we can still make rings like this that you won’t find on any other websites for sale.
