Dear Zindagi – Five Reasons to Watch This Movie

D ear Zindagi is being telecast on Zee Cinema this Sunday 23rd April at noon, and I am really excited to watch this movie. These days with two small kids, a job, and a blog to juggle, I don't get the time to watch movies at the cinema at all. The only movies I watch are on Netflix or TV, long after the kids have gone to bed, and if I am not bone-tired by then (as is often the case).

So, I missed Dear Zindagi in the cinema, but I'm really excited to catch it on TV this Sunday, and I think you should too. Here are five reasons why.

1. Shah Rukh Khan looks hotter than hot in his scruffy casual avatar.

   The last time I remember seeing Shah Rukh looking so #scruffyhot like this was in Chak de India - another movie I loved.

2. Director is Gauri Shinde of English Vinglish fame.

I absolutely adored Gauri Shinde's movie English Vinglish and her empowering feminist message in that movie, and I think I will enjoy any movie that she makes. I love her sensibilities, and her very realistic and simple style of movie making.

3. Hilarious and pithy dialogues.

   My friends who watched this movie came back raving about how funny and true-to-life the dialogues were, and the few reviews I have seen also confirm this.

   
4. Alia Bhatt's charm.

   OK, I loathed her in her début movie - Student of the Year, but since then I think she's come a long way (think Highway, and Udta Punjab). She's not a conventionally pretty Bollywood heroine, but there's a charm there, and combine that with her understated performances, I think she will be amazing in this movie.

   Also, she seems to be perfectly cast as a confused millennial battling depression.

5. Unique (for Bollywood standards) story.
   

   This movie centers on a budding cinematographer named Kaira, who is discontented with her life and meets Dr. Jehangir, a free-spirited psychologist who helps her to gain a new perspective on her life. It's a casual coming of age story, there's no violence or sappy romance (I hope), just a lot of healthy dialogue (hopefully) about leading a fulfilling life.

So here are the five reasons I"ll be on my couch watching Dear Zindagi this Sunday. Do you plan to catch this movie? Already watched it? How did you like it?
