Crystal Lake... a Charming Neighborhood Lake in an Affordable Community

By Homesmsp @HomesMSP

Crystal lake

Minnesota's nickname is "The Land of 10,000 Lakes",  and many of them are found throughout the Twin Cities metro area. It is hard to find a community that doesn't have a lake, pond, river or creek nearby... and hard to find a Minnesotan who doesn't have some sort of connection to a lake 'Up North'. Water is a strong part of our culture and sense of place... in fact Minnesota has more miles of shoreline than California, Florida and Hawaii combined, and one recreational boat for every six people, more than any other state!! If you dream of living near water, Minnesota is the place for you!

Check out current Twin Cities waterfront homes for sale to find your dream home... but don't despair if your budget doesn't include a $1M+ home, you can find lakes in all kinds of communities.

One great example is Crystal Lake in the city of Robbinsdale, which was founded in 1893 as the first suburb of Minneapolis. In its early history people traveled to Crystal Lake to go duck hunting.

Now homes and little league ballparks surround this "community" lake that is home to a variety of fish, but mostly small crappies and blue gills.  It's a friendly walk on the 1.8 mile trail around the lake, and we stopped to walk around Crystal Lake one idyllic evening last week when the lake was as smooth as glass. We encountered people fishing, plus neighbors and families of all ages walking and biking on the trail around the lake.

A suburb only 15 minutes from downtown Minneapolis with a small town feel, Robbinsdale is made up primarily of  single family homes and is also home to the regional North Memorial Medical Center. When I show homes here, clients comment on how they like the feel of the area... charming homes with historic character, a great neighborhood feel, easy access to downtown Minneapolis and affordable prices. Sound like a community you might like? See Robbinsdale homes for sale.

The City of Robbinsdale has a population around 14,00 people and is about 3 suare miles in size.  It was named for Andrew Robbins, who purchased 90 acres of land for the purpose of making the area a suburban town. Fawcett Publications was founded in 1919 in Robbinsdale with the publication of Captain Billy's Whiz Bang.

Downtown Robbinsdale is just a short walk from Crystal Lake. Its 'Main Street' has a family-friendly small town feel, with local shops and restaurants. The city hosts community events, such as...

  • Pet & Wheel Parade - the children love it
  • A community Twins Game Ride - take a ride to the game on a bus with your neighbors!
  • Wet & Wild Water Fun Day - All ages can enjoy this annual water slide day!
  • Whiz Bang Days - every July - food, games, contests, street fairs, baseball games, a horseshoe tournement, gardening, art fair, a bocce ball tournament, amoung other things

Crystal Lake is a nice central focus to a warm, enjoyable town.
