ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Midi: Review and Swatches

By Kwilliford @ExquisiteEczema
It has been a little over a week since I got this product, and I have been using it nearly everyday since. And I can see why there is so much hype around this product. Between the budget friendly price, wide variety of shades, and the formula, I can see why so many love them.  I have two other shades, but this is the only one I have used so far. I wanted to review them separately to highlight any differences in formula, and also to allow each shade to shine for itself. Plus it is just easier on me.

Midi is about as nude as a nude lipstick can get. In fact, I am actually shocked it looks flattering on me because this level of nude has a tendency to look awful on me. ColourPop describes Midi as a "soft neutral beige." I think that is a spot on description. It doesn't lean too brown nor too pink.  Based on swatches I have seen, I did expect to have a little bit more pink.

I have seen some mixed reviews regarding the formula of the Ultra Matte Lips in general. Fortunately, I am loving just about everything about Midi.  The first thing I noticed is how insanely lightweight the texture is. I remember watching CoffeeBreakWithDani's Youtube video on these and she hit the nail on the head. She mentioned that it feels like you have just lightly powdered your lips when they dry down; matte but certainly not uncomfortable. And barely detectable. Midi is also highly pigmented and opaque. A little bit goes a long way. The swatch I did was done with what little bit was on the applicator. No double dipping. With any liquid matte lipstick, I always experience some level of dryness. Despite having the most matte finish I have ever seen, it doesn't have a dry feeling. Not even at the end of the day. However, it does accentuate my lip lines more than most lipsticks. It isn't bad enough to make me dislike Midi, but it is something to consider.
The dry time on these is slower than I have seen a lot of people say. For me, it takes about 1-2 minutes to become completely dry. And it does transfer, even though it is not supposed to. Granted, it is minimal, but it does happen. These are a crazy, new level of long lasting. Other than the minor transfer issue, this color stays put all day.  It will look the same at the end of the day as it did when you applied it.

I adore the packaging. It is a simple clear tube with a silver top and doe foot applicator. Gotta love the simplicity, and it is always nice when you can what color you are reaching for.  The applicator is your standard doe foot, which does make application a cinch.
Midi left a great first impression for these lippies. Now I am trying out the shade Mars, which is stunning and so far seems to be just as good.
