CMT Music Fest – Spotlight Artist – Andrew Hyatt

Posted on the 25 June 2016 by Hendrik Pape @soundcheckblg

We caught up with CMT Music Fest artist Andrew Hyatt and wanted to know a few things before he hit the stage on July 8th when he opens for Eric Church and Kip Moore in Kitchener, Ontario for CMT Music Fest's inaugural party.

Tell us a little bit about your first music festival experience, either as a performer or as a fan. My friend and I always went down to six flags to see bands play. Every year it would pour rain and everything we owned would be soaking wet. We didn't care because we were all still awkward teenagers and looked greasy to begin with. Live music is great rain or shine. What's your best piece of advice for a first time festival attendee? Pace yourself. You're there to see great music! If you want the best experience, you have to make it to the concert. Also, prepare yourself for porta johns.... Festival people are animals. What can someone who's never seen you play before expect from your live performance? Self-deprecation and great songs Do you have any pre-show rituals? Nothing in particular. Maybe a whiskey or two. Something to take the sweat out of my palms What does being a part of the inaugural CMT Music Fest mean to you? I grew up listening to country music and watching country music videos. I feel like I'm getting the chance to stand shoulder to shoulder with my heroes. It means the world to me Who/What are you most looking forward to seeing at CMT Music Fest? The girls... I mean..... Really it's about the music. I always love hearing new songs from artists I love. This roster is chalk-full of amazing new and established artists, I just want to soak in great music. What has been your most memorable festival experience? The first time a crowd sang my song back to me was definitely one of my favorite moments. Do you have any advice for someone who might be playing a festival for the first time? Have fun and watch the artists who have been at it for a long time. Learn from those who have the experience. Does your set list change in a festival setting? Our set list changes based on what I'm feeling every day. Some nights I want to tell stories and get intimate in moments with the crowd and other nights I want my drummer to make his hands bleed from rocking so hard. It all depends on myself and the vibe of the crowd. Name three artists that would play "your" music festival if you could book anyone in the world? I'm a Canadian musician, I'll never be able to afford my own festival. 😉
