Editing videos can be challenging for a lot of people. They have the wrong notion that editing videos only involve cutting unwanted shots but the truth of the matter is that it is not. The good news is that there are many techniques out there that can help take your cloud video editing skills to the next level. Here are some tips to help you make meaningful edits:

Choose the best camera angle

When editing a video, you would want to create a balance between speaker intent and audience expectations. Consider the best view for the audience at different points of the event. As you think about it, choose the best angle that will make you better express your story.

Go for close-ups and medium shots

When editing videos, keep in mind that close ups and medium shots are the most meaningful to the viewers. Watching facial expressions and body language can stir engagement from the viewers. A close up shot offers the best angle.

Cut on action

When editing between two shots, the best technique is to cut on a gesture. Start with the beginning og an action in one shot and then finish off with the next shot.

Cut on words

The sound of a word especially if it contains a hard consonant can make an edit less obvious. When editing, you can highlight a certain word to make it more meaningful for your viewers.

Keep things going

Your viewers may have a short attention span. You would want to keep your video dynamic and make sure to capture the meat of your video within that short span of time.

Break up graphics

Try to break your video into sections and make sure that only the relevant ones are included in the video. Be methodical with choosing what will be included in the video and make sure that your video will catch attention.

Choose you editing tool wisely

Use a video editor that allows you to have control with editing. There are different editing tools on the market depending on your requirement. For example, will you only add a few clips together and add some titles. You would want to choose an editing tool that is easy to use and you are comfortable with. It is important to keep in mind that each editor has a learning curve so you may want to start with a basic editor first.

Avoid jumpcuts

Videos that include interviewees constantly stammering saying "um" and "uh" can be a hassle. You can cut these clips by adding layers of extra clips related to the content. This will make it look like the interviewee said things perfectly without a hitch. However, the only drawback is that these videos will need more advanced editing system.

Use a Secondary Sound Source

You would want to create a video with a clearer audio and sometimes the camera will not suffice. As much as possible, record your audio using a better microphone and separate recording system. If someone in the event is doing live sound, ask them to record things separately and sync audio in the post. Unfortunately, low end editors will not be able to do this for you. If possible, look for a microphone that can be directly plugged into your camera. As much as possible, always look for an alternative source of sound aside from camera microphones.

Vary your shots

The idea with editing video is to make your content more interesting. Avoid using the same shots for the entire video. Spice it up with more interesting angles. However, you should only use this technique sparingly. A good rule of the thumb is to cut based on the beat of the music or during pauses when people speak.
