It’s fair to say that Chelsea controversy-friendly captain John Terry is not every football fan’s cup of tea. But he’s probably really not that bothered after the pretty special week he’s just enjoyed. First, he made the England squad for European Championships ahead of Rio Ferdinand, whose brother Anton he allegedly racially abusing during a heated Barclays Premier League fixture versus Queens Park Rangers. And then, on Saturday, his team won the UEFA Champions League trophy for the first time in the club’s history. Terry was banned from the final after being red-carded in the semi-final versus Barcelona but that didn’t stop him celebrating the win with some gusto. The club captain switched into full kit to lift the cup in Munich to the delight of Chelsea’s deliriously happy fans. The Telegraph commented that “with the internet activating its klaxon of outrage over John Terry’s kit-based limelight-hogging Champions League celebrations, the visual memes were an inevitability.” Here’s the pick of the memes, as selected by The Periscope Post.
