Caroline Polachek of Chairlift is stepping out with solo work under the moniker Ramona Lisa. “Ramona is a character that sprang from the songs I made, she belongs to a different world. I’ve done everything with Chairlift from an androgynous, non-gendered point of view. What makes Ramona’s world specific is a sort of femininity that I’ve never gotten into before,” she recently explained in an interview with Fader.
The first video just arrived featuring Polachek cooly floating through alligator-infested waters, the emotional and visual contrast making for a captivating experience. “Dominic” is a sophisticated serenade centered around Polachek’s voice which drifts and glides throughout like oil on water or, in this context, a sleek boat on water. Ramona Lisa’s debut album, Arcadia, is out April 29th on Terrible Records, and she’s playing her release show at Baby’s All Right on the 28th.
