I had to read the headline twice too but its true,
An eight-year-old schoolboy has ‘married’ a 61-year-old woman in Tshwane, South Africa.
Sanele Masilela tied the knot with Helen Shabangu, who is already married and a mother of five.
This rather crazy wedding is something to do with the wishes left by his dead ancestors? The young boys family were so determined to follow these wished that they paid Helen £500 and then threw in an extra £1,000 to pay towards the wedding.
The poor child looks rather handsome in his little suit but the picture alone is frightening. What must be going through his mind?
The newly wed couple exchanged rings in front of 100 guests and even exchanged a kiss.
I was pleased to hear that the community think its shocking and the family say its not a legal marriage, just a ritual one.
The little boys family say they carried out their dead ancestors wishes as they feared if they did not then something bad would happen to the family.
“I didn’t have a problem with it because I know it’s what the ancestors wanted and it would make them happy.”
