The Story of Us by Lesley Jones is the first book of the Carnage series. It’s all taken from the heroine’s POV which she takes us on the first time she met her soulmate, on what happened the day after and on that devastating night that she lost him forever. I really had a hard time reading this story. I hate the heroine and everything that happened was just too much for me to bear.

The Story of Us is an emotional story, alright. Actually, this book just sent me into a roller coaster ride of emotions that right now I’m still in daze. So I’m sure I’ll be dropping some spoilers ahead, so please be warned.
This story started when they’re still teenagers, Georgia 11 years old and Sean 13 years old. And at that moment, they already know that they belong to each other. It sounded YA romance to me so I keep reading, and I have to tell you it wasn’t a pleasant one because there were some annoying teenage behaviors thrown at my way (c/o Georgia). But I love stories where there’s a hot overprotective brother fussing over the heroine and I can’t believe I’ve got not just one but three hot overprotective brothers, yum, haha. But aside from that, what also pulled me into this story was the closeness of the heroine’s family. It always makes my heart happy whenever I read stories with families loving each other.
But it was hard to keep up with the story when I came to the first hurdle of Georgia and Sean’s love story. I’ve already seen it coming, but it’s still annoying. I can’t really understand how a guy could propose to you and on the next day do something stupid. And their reason, “she’s all over me and I can’t do anything”, like heck you can! This is exactly the reason why I’m not a fan of a celebrity stories (but I love Cinder & Ella, *wink), the groupies, lack of privacy and the annoying paparazzi. I love musicians, I really do but this story is so hard to really like. Honestly, I’ve been mentally asking myself why I am having this kind of book in my TBR. Seriously, its making me feel so gloomy and so sad that I think I’m going depressed.
You might be wondering with why with just a little cheating (drugs and booze) will send me into depression eh? But it’s more than that. For four years both Georgia and Sean were living in hell, though mostly I’ve got to read about what Georgia’s been suffering since the whole book comes from her own POV. She’s been so hurt that she’s done a lot of STUPID things that in one point I really wish her dead. I know it shouldn’t be enough to hate the book just because you don’t agree on the main character’s actions but heck! It’s hard not to when all Georgia does is to f*ck things over. Ofcourse I understand her decision four years ago because she’s just a kid when that happened, but she’s 20 years old now!!! I thought because of what she’s been through she will become matured, but no. She’s still the selfish spoiled brat that she is four years ago.
And then Cam came into the picture and I was mentally hoping that he could tame her and hopefully fix her broken heart. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Sean, but cheating eventhough not intentionally is a no-no in my book so if its Cam, then I’ll be rooting for him for Georgia (eventhough I think she doesn’t deserve him, or anyone in this stage). I have my suspicious ofcourse but all Cam did is just being nice and understanding to her and not the dangerous guy they paint him to be. I thought its finally going to be fine all the way to the end…. and then all that shattered and I was thrown again into another roller coaster ride of emotion that it made me pray and wish this story to finally end. This story is like a book who specializes with torture because it really crushed my heart. I know I should just stop reading but I’m already in 70% and I know I would hate it more if I can’t find out what’s the ending would be. But heck! I should just have stop. The ending was just so depressing. It’s so depressing and so frustrating that I just wanna cry.
I know life is not all just happiness, that we all deal a lot of problems all the way and then at one point we do some stupid things, but heck! This story is just too much to bear. Just too much.
I don’t think I need to tell you more about Georgia because obviously she’s not a likeable heroine, and there’s not even one thing about her that I find acceptable. She’s just annoying and stupid and selfish. I know it’s bad to feel happy about other’s misfortune but I have to say that she totally deserves it, but not Sean and their baby. Unlike Georgia, Sean managed to change my mind about him. Right now, whenever I think about him, all I see is how a loving husband he is and in one point sexy. Heck, he’s a rock god in this book people! But seriously, there’s nothing more hateful about this book than Georgia herself. She’s just….
This was my first time from the author and it’s obviously didn’t gave a good first impression. Although there’s a two or three scenes that I enjoyed, my overall experience was horrible. I can overlook some not-so-reader friendly words but I can never overlook the stupid heroine. I know I’m being nasty about it, but right now, I’m afraid my tact machine isn’t working and I just speak what’s exactly in my mind.
I’m already set on giving this story a 1 star rating (or no stars at all) but I do love Georgia’s brothers and I feel sorry for Sean and the baby so I’m giving this a 2 stars. I hate to admit it but I’m really interested to read Marley’s (Georgia’s brother) that’s a good thing eh?
If you have hypertension, blood pressure or heart problems, please stay away from this book. It’s really not good for the heart. Well, a lot liked it so maybe it’s just me, but I still won’t recommend it.
