Blog Tour Stop & Review: Angel Killer by Andrew Mayne Description (from cover):
'FBI agent Jessica Blackwood believes she's left her complicated life as a gifted magician behind her...until a killer with seemingly supernatural powers put her talents to the ultimate test.
A hacker who identifies himself only as "Warlock" brings down the FBI's website and posts a code in its place that leads to a Michigan cemetery, where a dead girl is discovered rising from the ground...as if she tried to crawl out of her own grave.
Born into a dynasty of illusionists, Jessica Blackwood is destined to become its next star--until she turns her back on her troubled family to begin a new life in law enforcement. But FBI consultant Dr. Jeffrey Ailes' discovery of an old magic magazine will turn Jessica's world upside down. Faced with a crime that appears beyond explanation, Ailes has nothing to lose--and everything to gain--by taking a chance on an agent raised in a world devoted to achieving the seemingly impossible.
The body in the cemetery is only the first in the Warlock's series of dark miracles. Thrust into the media spotlight, with time ticking away until the next crime, can Jessica confront her past to stop a depraved killer? If she can't, she may become his next victim.'
My thoughts:
This type of book is something that I don't typically read. I usually stick to cozy mysteries and historical fiction, which is clearly evidenced by this blog. I decided, when offered to read this book, that I would step outside my box and try something new. I am so glad that I did. This book was fantastic. It started off with a bang right away and had me reading through it to find out what happens next. Andrew Mayne is a fantastic thriller writer and keep me guessing from page one until the very last page. The author created a wonderful character in Jessica Blackwood. She is not your typical protagonist. She is not confident in her skills as an FBI investigator. She has a troubled background and fights constantly with her past in this book.
I really enjoyed this book. For some reason it reminds a little of James Patterson, but at the same time, it doesn't. James Patterson's books tend to follow a predestined formula and this one was all over the charts. I had no idea what to expect next and spent most of the book wondering what the Warlock had in store next. The author did a phenomenal job of creating some pretty complex murders in this book and it amazed me as it shows me a little bit of what his imagination is like.
If you are looking to read a thriller that will keep you turning the pages and that is not your typical thriller, then this is the book for you. I really enjoyed this one a lot and I am hoping that we get to see more of Jessica in future novels. The author really has created a masterpiece and I can't but hope that he has more for this reader. I am also glad that I tried something a little different from the norm for me and that I loved it.

Blog Tour Stop & Review: Angel Killer by Andrew Mayne About the Author:
Hes a magician, a paranormal illusionist, an inventor and an unapologetic prankster. Hes been one of magics best kept secret. Andrew Mayne started off on a promising career in magic as a teenager when he became the second youngest illusionist to ever embark on a world tour (The first one being another upstart by the name of David Copperfield).
During his tour he performed in resorts, on luxury liners and exotic locales around the world. Five years later, at the ripe old age of twenty-three, he decided it was time for a career change. Bored with putting beautiful girls into boxes only to be cut in half, the sequins and the other clichéd trappings of magic, Andrew decided to call it quits on anything that was beginning to look like a normal career in magic.
Although an established performer at the top of his career, there wasnt a place for the kind of magic Andrew really wanted to perform. To his booking agents chagrin, he decided to delve behind the scenes and see what kind of boundaries he could push.
