We Stand With Adrienne as she Celebrates and Honors her Mom, a Black Queen who Stood Up to Breast Cancer and Won!

A Daughter’s Love

My mother aka my “She-Ro” is a true testament to what faith and determination can become when the two meet on mutual ground. Her small stature of only 5’1 has with-stood many of life’s physical perils including breast cancer, and stroke. Mary Williams-Jones was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 35. In those days technology was still in development and surgeries were indeed risky. She discovered her own lump through self-massage and knew to see her physician immediately. She was married to a wonderful husband, had two young children and until this point life was grand. Surgery was quickly performed at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Ga without undergoing chemotherapy. Thanks to her unwavering faith and regular mammograms she remains cancer free after 3 decades – though she did have a radical mastectomy!

She suffered a stroke years later and survived that as well, maybe it was considered that her only living child could not bear the separation so her life was spared yet again. It brings me great joy to witness the zest for life she still maintains after the loss of an only son, two deceased husbands and an only daughter that resides in another state…She praises GOD regularly, showers me with love daily, and smiles frequently. It is the greatest honor to be her daughter.

I hope this serves to inspire someone reading that no matter how tough the times may seem – there’s light at the end of the tunnel…. Speaking of light, I send love and light to you all!

Remember, no matter what you may be going through keep fighting, praying, believing and surviving…
