The Golden Globes were much different this year than normal.
You might have noticed the main color scheme was black in support of the #TimesUp movement that is pushing across America. Men and women alike supported this cause throughout the entire evening.
For Big Little Lies, though, things were a much rosier hue because the HBO Limited Series took home four of the prestigious awards on January 8th in Los Angeles. The only show or movie to equal that win was ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’.
During the 75th Annual Golden Globes, the series took home the Globe for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture made for TV. David E. Kelley, creator and writer, and Reese Witherspoon, actress and Executive Producer, accepted the award. Reese Witherspoon thanked all the women who spoke up this year and referenced the characters in the show by saying that what you show to the world may not be what’s happening behind closed doors.
Nicole Kidman was enthusiastic to receive her award from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Gal Gadot for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for TV. She received a similar award from the Emmys, also beating out her co-star, Reese Witherspoon.
There was one more award for the show to take home. This time it was for Laura Dern for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for TV. She did it with style and grace while she geared her speech with the theme of the evening. She mentioned that people were “told not to tattle” because we are a “culture of silence.” She urged all of us to “not only support survivors, but bystanders who are brave enough to tell their truth.” She wanted everyone to “teach their children that speaking out without fear of retribution is our culture’s new North Star.”
Big Little Lies is an HBO Series that was made from the best-selling book, of the same name, by Liane Moriarity. It resonates with so many of these three mothers, who seem to have such perfect lives, crumble within their own walls. It can be seen on the HBO streaming service or on DVD and Blu-Ray.
The darkly, comedic series will be returning for a second season, amidst some controversy. HBO made the announcement on December 8, 2017. It will be directed by Andrea Arnold and written by David E. Kelley. The first season had seven episodes and it is projected that the second season will match that, but there is no release date yet set because filming has yet to resume.
