Benefits of Rosehip Oil for Skin & Hair

Hi people! Happy New Year! I didn't realize that it's been close to a month that I wrote a blog post. I am adding this as a goal in my new year resolution - that to write more blog posts on perksofbeauty. Maybe, its a lack of motivation or anything but I will list down what I am planning to write this month. But before I get there, I have been loving a skincare product that transformed my skin so much. I would say that this product is a boon for dry skin and oily skin equally. You ask me why? read on.

I got this product off of Amazon a while ago (winter '16) and I have been using it very often. I do realize the benefits of rosehip oil for skin and hair are way too many, but I would like to mention how exactly I use it on my skin and hair ( and also body). Also, I will try to share my experience when I followed the regimen.

I have mentioned a couple of times that my skin is dry and winter makes it the worst. To combat the dry skin patches and shedding skin, I use rosehip oil.

How? When?

Use 1/2tsp of rosehip oil mixed with a capsule of Vitamin E. I apply it on my face followed by a mini massage. Leave it overnight and wash it off the next morning.


I wake up with the softest skin and my skin glows. The dryness is nowhere to be felt. Continuous usage of this mixture treats the scars and also fights the early signs of anti-aging.

Rosehip Oil for Skin as a Scrub/ Exfoliator

In my opinion for any type of skin, exfoliating is a must. Based on your skin type, you may choose the mild/light variants of scrubs. I love scrubbing as I get to see a brighter and smoother face after I scrub. I like my scrub to be gentle yet effective.

How? When?

I use a tablespoon of brown sugar, mix it with honey and add a bit of rosehip oil. This creates a very fine paste and turns into a gentle scrub which is perfect for my skin.


This scrub makes my skin so smooth and glowy. The rosehip oil and honey add the extra glow.

I love pampering my skin with DIY face masks over the weekends. I make most of my face masks which include a variety of clays, fruits, and oils.

How? When?

Many of us know that clay masks are so good for deep cleaning the skin and cleansing the pores. Clay also helps in tightening of pores and fights acne-causing bacteria. But, sadly clay makes my dry skin more dry and tight. So, I make a paste of clay, rosewater and lastly I add rosehip oil. My current favorite clays are the bentonite clay and Indian healing clay.

I apply the mask after cleansing my face, wait for 15 minutes and wash off.


The skin feels so refreshed and clean and the rosehip oil helps my skin retain the moisture. I get the benefits of clay mask and without making my skin dry.

Being an Indian, I am not new to oiling the hair. As a kid, my mom used to apply a perfect blend of coconut oil, almond oil, castor oil religiously to my hair. As I grow older, I didn't find much time for the perfect ratio to oil my hair, I stopped it. But, when I moved to the US last year, I noticed that my hair became so weak and prone to breakage. I started to oil again.


Mix 2tsp of rosehip oil, 1 Vitamin E capsule, 1tsp of jojoba oil. Warm the oil mixture for 10 seconds before applying it to the scalp, focus mainly on the roots and hair ends. I usually apply it in the night and wash the hair the next morning.


Now I enjoy very shiny hair, very less hair fall and almost perfect at any time of the day.
