Beer Review – Allgäuer Brauhaus AG Altenmünster Oktoberfest

During our most recent Walt Disney World vacation, we ventured over to Epcot so that the kids could get a paint stick with the stolen image of a fabric softener bear (really original marketing there WDW!). The plan was for them to go from country to country with their paint stick/stolen image contraption in hand to get it stamped with symbols from each country, while we hit up the various stands for the culinary delights from each country (our trip just happened to coincide with their annual Food & Wine Festival).

As we worked our way over to Germany, I was a bit parched, and hit up a stand that was serving the Altenmünster Oktoberfest. Now, I must preface that my review may have been influenced by the forced march that we were on, or that the beer may have seemed a bit better as the general surroundings in Orlando are like a vast wasteland without much in the way of craftiness or imports. That being said, this beer was actually quite good.

I would tell you what the Allgäuer Brauhaus has to say about this beer, but the site is in German and I only mastered junior year of high school Spanish, so I’ve got nothing.

I found the Altenmünster Oktoberfest to have the following characteristics…

  • Appearance: Golden with little foam or lacing.
  • Aroma: Malty with a hint of sweet caramel and hops.
  • Taste: Sweet with a bitter, hoppy finish.
  • ABV: 5.5%

This was a very drinkable beer, and given the possibility of finding it outside of Disney, could become a session beer. Of course, tasting this beer a second time, outside of the conditions of Disney, might lead to a slightly different opinion.
