By Heather Hahn @HeatherHahnn

A lot of us struggle when it comes to our guest bedrooms. We want to create a space that’s smart, stylish, and, most importantly, welcoming. When we have guests come to stay, we want them to feel like they’re staying somewhere as luxurious and stylish as a boutique hotel. Obviously, you also want them to feel at home. Getting the balance right isn’t easy. To beautify and add comfort to the space, here are some tips and ideas.

Keep the colors neutral

To give your guest room a hotel-like feel, it’s important to be choosy about the color scheme that you implement. All the best hotels are decorated in neutral colors, to help give them a clean look and feel. If you’re not a fan of neutrals, how about adding an accent wall for a pop of color? Or, if you want to incorporate color into the whole room, use pastel hues instead of brighter colors. These brighten up the space without being too overpowering.

Invest in quality bedding

You want your guest bedroom to be an environment that promotes a good night’s sleep. So it’s important to create a comfortable and cozy environment. If the mattress on the bed is old, it could be worth investing in a replacement. After all, you don’t want your guests to be uncomfortable, now do you? If a mattress is a little too expensive, how about investing in a mattress topper instead? The bed linen that you use should have a high thread count and be 100 percent cotton. It’s also a good idea to invest in a thick duvet – ideally hypoallergenic, and plush pillows.

Add style with accessories

To keep your guest room up to date, use accessories to add style. Around the room dot pieces of wall art that fit the style of the space. Along with cute, quirky ornaments, and items like rugs, throw cushions and throws. Update the lighting fixtures to add extra glamour. Place table lamps strategically around the room. Make sure that each and every accessories fits the tone and style of the space. Place a couple of empty vases around the room that you can fill with fresh flowers before guests arrive.

It’s the little things that matter

To make your guests feel at home, pop a few books and magazines on the nightstand. So that should they fancy a relaxing read, there’s something to keep them occupied. Place a couple of fresh towels over a chair for them, so that they can freshen up whenever they want to. So that they can have tea or coffee whenever they fancy it, leave a tray of refreshments and a kettle in their room, just like a hotel would do. Remember, it’s the little things that make the biggest impact.

There you have it, simple ways to beautify and add comfort to your guest bedroom.
