On her newest track, “Gemini Feed,” BANKS has managed to imbue the instrumentals and melodies with incredibly sexy undertones, while delivering lyrics that draw from love’s darker spaces — a talent she seems to have honed since her 2014 debut, Goddess. This comes along with the announcement that her followup, The Altar is out on September 30. Perhaps a reference to the passive aggressive, depressive wedding altar mentioned in “Gemini Feed,” her new album is sure to contain more of these emotionally contradictory tracks, drawing you in with slow-burning instrumentals and keeping you hooked with lyrics that scratch well below the surface.
