Artist of the Week: James Wade (@IamJamesWade)

Georgia native by way of Ohio / Illinois - first broke unto the scene with the critically Acclaimed Popular Stranger (hosted by DJ ILL Will and DJ Rockstar) with hit songs like “Weatherman” and “Smile” Wade was featured on DJBooth.net, Hotnewhiphop, Synspeak.com - while putting a self funded tour and having the opportunity to open for acts such as Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Mike Posner, Mac Miller, LMFAO, and Machine Gun Kelly – Wade began to work on his sophomore release.

The highly anticipated The Ugly Show teams Wade with DJ Benzi and shows him taking his artistry to the next level. His first single “Lights On” is a dubstep influence rager that shows the emcee going over a Ellie Goulding sample of “Starry Eyed” as he boasts lyrics like “All I do is rage, throwin’ raves in a basement / bumpin Chiddy Bang and get blazed with a base head” – This first single sets off the project in a major way as it shows his willingness to push boundaries while givin props to his team Th3rd S3t and their motto “Who You Think Keep The Lights On!?!”

The Ugly Show drops September 20th

When did you first discover your creative talents?

God seemed to always steer me towards writing – creative writing, would win writing awards in school – wrote a little poetry, turned into spoken word – just naturally evolved into music – always had a love for music – now it just seems like it was a  natural progression
Who are your musical influences?

Who isnt? ha – I’m inspired by everything I hear – “good” and “bad” I feel like there is something to take away from every artists who exhibits some sort of strength and talent in music – Bone Thugs were my idols, until them I never knew how to appreciate music – then it was ‘Pac, Dj Quik, E-40, Dre & Snoop and Deathrow Records, Do Or Die, Twista, Goodie Mob, OutKast, then it went to Jay,Nas, Em, Kanye, Game, Vanessa Carlton, Goo Goo Dolls, Be Be & Ce Ce Winans, Vertical Horizon, Nine Days, Gap Band, Passion Pit, The Fray – you name it – I listen to it – I try to actively search in all genres for influential artists

Who would you like to work with professionally?

Green River Ordinance, Frank Ocean, DJ Quik, Krayzie Bone, MGMT, J.Cole, Big Sean, The Fray, Syleena Johnson, The Weeknd, and Passion Pit – already have a list…

What projects do you have in the works?

My sophomore project “The Ugly Show” with DJ Benzi comes out September 20th, after that I’m going on a promotional tour and we have some great projects in the works to strengthen my brand, working to get the Th3rd S3t Foundation off the ground – me and a couple of pro athletes, other professionals are partnering with non profits and charities to really use our platform to affect change in as many communities as possible

How do you separate yourself from other artists?

They are here to be heard, I am here to be great – what makes James Wade, James Wade is that I’m not afraid to be myself on record and in my presentation – to speak my mind, to stand for something, I speak with conviction and speak with authority – I know who I am as a person, God made me and I understand that this is bigger than just me – my job is to be the best me I can and make sure my life’s work does my help than harm – I don’t do this for anything else but to further and expand the culture and succeed in a business aspect while maintaining artistic integrity
