Story: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom starts as Arthur Curry (Momoa) tries to balance his life as a father and King of Atlantis. Elsewhere, Black Manta (Abdul-Mateen II) is still hunting for Arthur to avenge his father. This leads to him unlocking a former power which gives him great strength.
Black Manta is causing damage to the environment, forcing Arthur to turn to the last person he would imagine, his brother Orm (Wilson). Now the brothers must stop the destruction while learning more about their history along the way.
Verdict on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom follows Arthur as he teams up with his estranged brother Orm to defeat Black Manta. They must deal with their own problems, as Black Manta has become stronger than ever, causing more damage than before. However, it sees them needing to learn to trust and understand the world.
This is a welcome addition to the comic book movies, following the underwater adventures of Aquaman. It manages to step away from the DCEU giving our characters their own adventure. While a lot of the story feels like an environmental message without stuffing it down our throats. It also contains the idea of estranged brothers needing to work together, like Thor went through.
However, this isn’t a bad thing because the world created is filled with creations within the world. This is also stepping back into the horror creations that James Wan is famous for. It is a much darker environment than you would imagine. Jason Momoa and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II continue to be great to watch. However, Randall Park steals the whole movie as Dr Stephen Shin.
Final Thoughts – Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom creates an amazing world for horror and adventure.
