Into the Woods
The annual presentation of a Stephen Sondheim musical at Theatre du Chatelet continues in 2014 with Into the Woods, one of the most beloved of his musicals. A dark and bittersweet reinterpretation about the world of classic fairy tales, Into the Woods turns Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk on their heads. It premiered on Broadway in 1987 and starred Bernadette Peters with the clever book written by James Lapine.

Controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe died of AIDS in 1989 but his powerful and graphic images continue to stimulate our senses. In the first Paris retrospective, over 200 works are shown from the 1970s to 1989 including nudes, flowers, and portraits in the stark black and white style Mapplethorpe became famous for.
