New Delhi: Apple seems ready to increase its production in India. The technology giant based in Cupertino is now reportedly planning to produce smartphones worth 47,000 crore hospitals in the country in the ongoing financial year. The company plans to utilize the incentive scheme related to production (PLI) which aims to promote ‘make in India’ and make India independent.

Apple contract manufacturers such as Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron are currently building and collecting iPhones in India. The company is required to produce smartphones worth RS 8,000 CRORE each to benefit from the PLI scheme which also aims to increase the export of the country.

Companies tend to export 60 percent of iPhone production in this country. Until now, the iPhone produced in India contributed less than 1.5 percent of Apple’s international sales.

The increasing dominance of Apple in the smartphone market and Pandemi Covid-19 forced the technology giant to find new products and assemble units. The company has also begun to collect iPhone in Brazil too.

According to a report by ET, Apple is expected to produce an iPhone worth $ 6 billion (RS 47,000 Crore) in India. Original equipment manufacturers started producing iPhone SE in 2017.

Currently, Apple iPhone 11 manufacturers 11, 12 and 13 are in India. Wistron and Pegatron mostly produce iPhone 12 at the Bengaluru and Tamil Nadu respective factories. Meanwhile, Foxconn currently produces iPhone 11, 12 and 13 in the Tamil Nadu unit.

If Apple will increase its manufacturing in India, the price of several iPhone models may fall, because the company will save a lot of import tax and shipping costs. However, in the end, it will be in the company if it decides to provide benefits to its customers or not.
