An Icy Treat for a Hot Pup (& Hot Humans Too?)

By Withthegrains @WithTheGrains

The Dog Days of Summer
June 2014

I thought my pup would know her limits. I thought she’d ignore a ball if she were really exhausted. I thought she’d drink enough water to quench her thirst. When I took her home, and she was still panting heavily, I knew I had thought wrong, and my heart sank with remorse.

Little Hot Dog

In an effort to exercise my sheepdog, I had dehydrated her. Equipped with plenty of guilt, concern, and internet research, I drenched my little one in cold water, reacquainted her with the scary, loud windy thing she first encountered a year ago, and restored her electrolytes with coconut water.

Summer lesson learned.

Doggy Dessert

For the little ones who nature enshrouded in sweaters all the livelong year, this is an icy treat for the long, humid months.

Frozen Dog Treats

Ingredients

1 cup organic plain yogurt
1 cup organic creamy peanut butter

Directions

Combine the yogurt and peanut butter using a mixer or a spatula. Pour into a wax paper lined container and chill in the freezer until slightly solid. Use a cookie cutter to cut into shapes or use a knife to divide.

Alternately, you can pour the mixture into a lined cupcake tray for single servings.

Note: With a little bit of honey or a vanilla yogurt, these would be a great treat for hot people too!

Single-Grain

Stay cool!
